MRE (Meal Ready To Eat)

You will never mistake an MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) for either your mother’s home cooking or a gourmet meal at an upscale restaurant.  But, at the same time, you certainly won’t starve if you have MREs to eat either – – – and, in fact, many of the MREs are pretty tasty.  There are several main producers of MREs, and most of the meals they each produce are pretty comparable to each other in terms of taste.

The best way to determine if you have a real preference for the MREs produced by one of the companies over the others is to buy 2 or 3 meals from each of the main producers and perform your own taste test.  I personally prefer the Wise Company, Mountain House, AlpineAire Foods, and Backpackers Pantry meals.  A second thing to be aware of and to look for is the shelf life of the MRE as that will vary.  Recommended below are several MRE kits/packages that are popular and that have received good customer satisfaction ratings from Amazon customers.
